Winter Favourites

I’m back! Somewhat, at least. I’m still not 100% but good enough to share some beauty with you guys. I actually left the house today for the first time since Saturday (if you don’t count my two visits to the doctor the last days). Manuel’s sister just finished her master degree at university and today was the graduation ceremony. She came here this morning so that I could do her makeup and then we left together. The ceremony started at 10:00 and went on for almost two hours. After that we had lunch at a restaurant with the whole family. I had an amazing pumpkin soup. Before moving here I wasn’t a fan of soup at all, but creamy soups I really really like when they’re made right.

However, have you been missing my post the last week? I hope so, because I’ve missed you. Today I’m sharing some of my winter favourites with you! This season I love to go all in with sparkle, deep colours and products that create a flawless looking skin.

SKIN: In the winter I like to go a bit heavier in the coverage of my foundation and I always choose one that is matte and long-wearing. To set I love the Studio Sculpt Defining Powder from MAC. It provides a bit of extra coverage and smooths out the surface of the skin, giving you a flawless canvas to work with. Even if it’s winter and everyone are feeling pale and dull, I like to bronze up my skin to bring more life to the face. I love Hoola from Benefit for that – it’s also a great contour powder for a bit darker skin than mine and the powder is blending beautifully so it never looks overdone. Although I absolutely love a matte finish, I can’t skip the highlighter. On the cheekbones, bridge of the nose, cupids bow, inner corner and brow bone – that’s where I’d apply it. Sometimes I only do the cheekbones and think that looks great too! It makes it very festive. My favourite highlighter is the Shimmering Skin Perfector from Becca. To set all my powders I’m using NYX matte setting spray. I can’t tell if it’s actually helping my makeup to last longer, but I like the feeling of spraying my face after doing my makeup – all the powders kind of melt together and helps it look more “natural”.

EYES: For the holidays especially, I want my eyes to shimmer like never before. My favourite combo for that makes it super easy to create a glittery smokey eye. It’s definitely fail-proof! I start with the Long Lasting Stick from KIKO over the whole lid and blend it upwards a bit over the crease with a finger before it dries. Then I apply the most beautiful sparkly eyeshadow from BareMinerals on top of the cream. It’s super quick and festive! Perfect for any future Christmas party, or why not New Year’s eve?

LIPS: It’s always season for a bold lip in my opinion, but it gives most effect in the winter. You want that pop of colour a bit extra this time of year! The lip combo I love is a dark red/purple. I use the Intensely Lavish lip liner from KIKO on the whole lips. It’s a liner that applies creamy and super pigmented, but dries and stays really long on the lips. Since I want that little extra I apply my Michael Kors lipstick on top of it. The lipstick is not much to cheer for alone, but with a dark liner underneath the lipstick makes it just right. It has a bit of glitter and shine in it and gives a very luxurious feeling to the whole look.

NAILS: You know the drill, I love Essie nail polish. This shade is one of my absolute favourites. It’s dark, applies beautifully and lasts at least one week on my nails. As appropriate for work as for your winter nights of partying! Plus, it matches the lip colour which I always think is a nice detail.

Swatches of the highlighter (bad swatch of it though, it’s a beautiful highlighter!), cream eyeshadow, loose eyeshadow, lipliner and lipstick. The lip shades are a bit more purple in real life.
